But First, Let Me Take a Selfie

Selfie Sticks Take Over the Bone Church

June 21, 2019- Architecturally Speaking

At this point it is a little overkill that there are SO many selfie sticks in places that attract tourists. They take over the streets with beautiful views. They take pictures before every meal solidifying the “phone eats first” motto. They choose their vacation based off of whats popular and trending. It has come to a point where people look at the world through their phones more than their eyes.

Being on this trip it is my job to document and take photos and as much genuine fun I have taking them, it feels like I look back at moments more than live in moments. These people are not only in the Bone Church they are everywhere even if it isn’t as dramatic as this. This post isn’t about tourism though, it is just the main focus of this particular photo.

This photo is about the bones of this church and I don’t mean the foundation. The church had thousands and thousands of people wanting to come and be buried there after it was deemed holy since Jesus’ grave’s dirt was at the church. The church was eventually over run and they took all the bones out to create the art that is all over the church.

The most dazzling piece of bone sculpture is the giant chandelier hanging over the center. It is said to have a bone from every part of the body! Overall this church definitely attracts all kinds of tourists and their selfie sticks because the architecture literally speaks. Since all the bones are made of real people the walls have quite a story to tell.
