The Country of Atheists Capitalizes on Tourism of Churches for Survival

June 22, 2019 – A Thousand Words

Another record that Prague so proudly holds besides unhealthy living, great metros, lots of drinking and tourists is the being on the tops of “most atheists” lists for Europe. Their churches are quite literally gaining cobwebs until they realized that you might as well give into capitalism and let it keep the churches beautiful. There is a cover charge to go inside the church, sometimes another charge to take pictures, definitely a price for tours and in this church, up until recently, there was even another charge that prevented people from going up the stairs to the patio and balcony without a charge.

This photo is so interesting to me because it is a seemingly Czech woman in the blonde hair to the right giving a tour in an Asian language, I am not sure which one, to these people. Which makes sense because there are always tour guides for us that speak English, it is just something to get used to since there are so many varieties of tourists in Prague.

Another thing about this photo that is of interest to me is the greenery in the church. Personally I feel as though that represents the life giving and fulfillment that a church can give you, but I am not sure what its true purpose is.

The last thing that is of interest to me is the fact that there are so many people, the town we went to is understandably a very nice place, but before now I had never heard of it and it is just surprising to see people from all over here, especially the people with Texas school shirts! Regardless this photo just speaks to how there is no longer the people of Czech going to pay service, it is just more people curious and interested more in the instagram post than living in the moment.
